Onboarding jitters…
We all remember that first day feeling. A mix of excitement and nervousness! To give your new starters every chance of success (knowing over 1 in 5 new starters choose to leave their new job within the first 45 days!), make your onboarding a fab experience.
Here are a few tips:
Buddy up: Pair new hires with a seasoned colleague for guidance and support. No one wants to ask their boss how to use the printer.
Pre-boarding: Don't wait for day one! Send out a welcome note and pre-boarding materials to get them pumped and know what to expect.
Set expectations: Make sure you have a conversation with them in W1 to understand their role and responsibilities.
Culture champions: Show off your culture with a team lunch in their first few days to help them build relationships and feel welcomed.
Feedback fiesta: Make feedback a two-way street. Regularly check in with your newbies to ensure a smooth transition and ask “how are you going?” “Are you getting enough support?” and “What is different to what you expected?” to help you refine for next time.
By investing in onboarding, you're setting your new hires up for success from the get-go and reducing those hefty replacement costs.
