How you treat an exiting employee really matters 🤠

Not only is it in important to treat leavers with respect and understanding, and the right thing to do, doing the opposite has consequences.

Gallup data suggests one in four leavers are met with ‘rudeness, hostility or a generally negative reaction’ and another 10% with indifference.  This has real consequences for your brand and morale amongst the remaining team.

Here’s why designing a positive exit is an important part of your people strategy:

  1. Building Brand Ambassadors – Satisfied leavers are 43% more likely to recommend their previous employer, driving future talent and opportunities.

  2.  Encouraging Return Talent – Employees who leave on good terms are six times more likely to consider coming back, bringing fresh skills and experience (and commitment!).

  3. Boosting Team Trust – Respectful exits show the remaining team that people are valued at every stage, reinforcing a positive, authentic culture.

A positive exit experience is key. Show support, acknowledge contributions, and keep connections open—you’ll leave a lasting impact.
