World Mental Health Day 🧠 - Creating Psychologically Safe Workplaces

On World Mental Health Day, let's talk about psychological safety… one of my favourite buzz words, because it’s not just *that*, it’s the foundation of high-performing teams and mentally healthy workplaces.

So what is it? It's the belief that you won't be punished/embarrassed for speaking up with ideas, questions, concerns, or mistakes.

The impact of higher levels of psychological safety is profound – google research identified teams had higher levels of collaboration and engagement.

Some of the things you can do to foster psychological safety:

  • Lead by Example: Share your own vulnerabilities and mistakes

  • Encourage Open Dialogue: Create spaces for honest, respectful communication

  • Embrace Failure: Treat mistakes as learning opportunities, not punishments

  • Practice Active Listening: Show that all voices are heard and valued

  • Recognise and Reward: Acknowledge those who speak up and contribute ideas

Remember, building psychological safety is an ongoing process, not a one-time event.  Want to assess and improve psychological safety in your organization? 🧠
